Half way through this video and I’m reflecting on how refreshing it is to watch a bike messenger video that isn’t wall-to-wall raging testosterone and bad behaviour. This is a thoughtful video about female bike messengers and the challenges they face—including being always asked if the job isn’t too tough for them.
Literally at the drop of a U-Lock, this video changes tack. The music starts getting loud and obnoxious and the women really start riding. As much as I liked the soft approach, I like this even better. By the end of the video, point made, the music gets softer, the riding calms down and we’re left with the reminder that women are every bit as tough—and skilled—as any man working hard on urban streets—but they bring something more to the scene and urban life is more civil for it.
